QUESTION: Dr. González, as of late my eyes get very red, especially at the start of the evening. What could be the cause?
– Marisol Huerta, Puerto Vallarta. –
Red eyes happen when the superficial blood vessels of the conjunctiva inflame due to an illness or injury. Conjunctivitis and sub conjunctival hemorrhage are two of the less serious but more common causes.
The first thing to do is to determine the causes and evaluate whether immediate attention is required. Slit-lamp examination is an important tool in your ophthalmologist’s hands, whom I strongly recommend you visit.
